Victor Bratu

Teacher of Geography and ICT

Born in Bucharest in a family of teachers, so my path in life was obvious from the very beginning. Wanted to teach since I was 12 years old but could not decide which subject I should go for. That all changed when I started being part of a folk-dance group with whom I traveled the world, dancing at festivals and seeing different cultures, landscapes, bioclimates and ways of living. It was then that I realized I wanted to be a Geography teacher and I never looked back.

Did both my BA and my MA at the University of Bucharest, where I enriched my knowledge of Geography. Focus was on climate and bioclimates, having written my dissertations on “The major bioclimate changes after the opening of the Nuclear Plant in Cernavoda” and “The redefinition of the heat bubble of Bucharest”.

Started my teaching career immediately after getting my degree and have been doing this for over 10 years now. Taught students from 5th to 12th grade in a variety of contexts. Working with so many diverse types of learners with various interests and preferences made my way of teaching develop constantly, considering everyone’s needs and requirements. I also sought to widen my students’ learning experience, which is why I helped organize science fairs and field trips that I enjoyed taking part in and am proud of to this day.

Ever since I was a student, I have participated in volunteer work either to restore mountain trails or to help organize events. Hence my many passions such as Astronomy, I participated in the National Astronomy Olympiad at country level, 3rd place, Folk Dances, with which I saw the world, Computer games, from where came the passion for ICT and virtual space, TV production, I had my own segment dedicated to Geography in a show on national TV where I met and interacted with many dignitaries, Boardgames are a pleasant, interactive way to relax and it helps a lot to develop imagination, critical thinking and quick thinking when you have to make important decisions very quickly. Interests have more to do with the pedagogical side at this stage of my life: Ethical integration of AI technology, Gamification of the education process, spreading this information nationally and internationally, Making educational programs and projects useful for students of all ages.

Joined the Avenor College team in 2021 to teach Geography and ICT to middle school students, and then joined the LOTC team at the high school level. Conducted clubs based on my passions such as Astronomy, Ancient Cultures and Civilizations, Disney Movies and Boardgames and interested students discovered worlds and unique aspects of life. I plan my lessons based on the needs of the students to help them discover the latest information useful in their daily lives but also enjoy the learning experience. I rely heavily on the principles of gamification of the learning process, and I want to develop this part of pedagogy further. Currently I am extremely focused on creating a strong connection with my students in management and I want to remain a source of optimism, knowledge, and goodwill, which they need especially in exam years. Moreover, I have started working on integrating AI technology into the teaching, learning and assessment process, and although it is a new element in education, I believe this aspect will transform it in a profound way.
