Stephen Marr
Head of Primary & Nursery
Education has been my passion now for over eighteen years.
I was fortunate enough to find my true calling in 2006, after an initial career in the financial sector.
My initial teaching career was based in the UK, before moving onto a top international school in the Middle East. My time there saw me lead my Key Stage to results that placed the school in the top 5% of schools worldwide. My final year there saw us achieve a whole school outstanding grade in our inspection. The last nine years of my career as Deputy Principal then Principal, saw me transform a school in Bucharest from an EYFS and small Primary to a successful all-through school. I also led the school to an outstanding inspection grade in 2022. In recent years I have trained as a BSO school inspector and gained valuable experience through school inspections.
I value colleagues highly, and through a coaching and collegiate style of leadership, I have always developed very close-knit, cohesive teams of diverse teachers. I only accept the best but ensure that I do my utmost to support them and provide high quality professional development to enable them to succeed. I ensure that not only do I “talk the talk” but I always “walk the walk.” People will not believe the rhetoric if it is not matched by actions that convey the same message. I am always fair, and I insist on professionalism and commitment at all times.
I will aim, through my leadership, to involve and engage the Avenor community, I endeavour to keep the vision simple and ensure it is effectively communicated to everyone. I believe as Malcolm X defined it “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.” I am passionate about improving the life chances for every child, committed to school improvement and to making a positive difference. I am determined to do whatever needs to be done to ensure that Avenor goes beyond outstanding.
My vision is an environment that facilitates independence and learning and encourages partnerships, so that by working together we create the opportunities necessary to enable children to achieve their true potential and enjoy success across all areas of life. A school at the heart of a learning community where everyone is valued and realises their input contributes towards a centre of excellence.
On a personal note, I am a long term resident of Greenfield, along with my wife Antonia and my three year old son Alexander, who is also looking forward to joining Avenor in September.
