Monica Voicu
Teacher of English
I have chosen the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures to improve my English language without thinking that my passion would turn into a career.
Before finishing my studies, I had the chance to work for the American International School of Bucharest. I knew then and there that teaching was my path. The years I spent with students and teachers from different countries have enriched me not only professionally, but also personally and prepared me effectively to take responsibility for teaching.
The TEFL/TESOL and TITC English for Young Learners Training, as well as the wide range of professional development courses and workshops I have attended over the years provided me with a significant understanding of child development and influenced my vision regarding education and teaching English language.
In 2012, I accepted the challenge of living in the United Kingdom. There, I have continued to work with children of different ages and obtained the teaching qualification recognised by the British authorities (Qualified Teacher Status). During this time, I have learned about the British Curriculum and strengthened my ability to teach children to read and write in English using Jolly Phonics and Read Write Inc.
In the 20 years of working in class, I understood that the role of the educator is to create a warm and safe environment, in which children can be provided with appropriate, challenging activities that encourage them to explore, question and think. I have learned that each child is unique and how to plan lessons and activities that will inspire each of them. I have learned that education is not limited to academic achievement, but it means flexibility, communication, humour, imagination, creativity, compassion.
Since 2018 I have been joyfully and proudly part of the Avenor community, and I am once again looking forward to the start of a new school year.
