Dr. Marta Torge

Teacher of German

Who would we be today without yesterday’s teachers? I strongly believe in the contribution of each teacher to the educational, cultural and social development of the child. Adults are the sum of the experiences they have lived during their formative years. My passion for children’s culture and interculturality was materialized through the study of foreign languages at the University “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” in Iasi, through the deepening of my knowledge in the Master of Intercultural Communication at the University of Bucharest, and then through research studies as a PhD student at Queen Mary, University of London in the field of comparative literature.

As soon as I discovered the change I could make in the world by shaping the minds and souls of young people through my role in the classroom, I decided to dedicate myself to a pedagogical career. I started as a teacher during my university days, teaching optional German language courses in several primary schools in Iasi. After graduation, three years of teaching at the German school “Hänsel und Gretel” and at “Varlaam Mitropolitul” in Iasi followed. In 2019 I decided to extend my expertise abroad and emigrated to the UK. In my first year I gathered experience in a German language intercultural school located in Paddington (central London), and after gaining QTS (Qualified Teacher Status), the following school year I taught in a secondary school in West London (Surrey), being part of a team of more than 200 teachers. To find the necessary time for my doctoral research, I chose to work as a supply teacher in different schools in London from April 2021, finding the flexibility I needed, but also enriching myself with different challenges.

Besides my teaching career, I have also dedicated myself to my academic career. I had the joy of visiting the Hans Christian Andersen Centre in Odense (Denmark) for research, presenting at international conferences on literary topics in England, Germany, Romania and China, and publishing in journals and magazines. At the same time, during my time as a German language teacher in London, I started writing short prose and children’s literature, debuting in 2021 with the short story “The Hope”. This was followed in 2022 by the book of essays “On Faith, Art and Everything in Between” published by Eikon and the children’s book ” Moș Grigore and the Unexpected Guest” published by Doxologia. In June 2024 my new children’s book, “The humble Sava: a story about friendship”, was published by Doxologia.

I joined the Avenor team in 2023 and I am happy to continue working with the entire community, which inspires students’ minds and souls with valuable principles.
