Teacher of Science
My passion for education began the same as many others. I had an inspiring teacher that made me believe in myself and my abilities. It was this teacher that made me feel unique and seen. I want to give every scholar the same opportunity to show their abilities and passions – school is a great place to let that shine.
I became a teacher through an organization called Teach For America. This program works to improve schools and access to equitable education across the United States. During this program, my passion for education grew exponentially. My time in Teach for America also taught me compassion, respect, diversity, and inclusion in ways that will remain with me forever.
The experience taught me that all scholars have the ability and right to learn at the highest level with high expectations.
I received both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Henderson State University.
I became a licensed science teacher in 2017 in North Carolina.
I have worked in many diverse schools in the United States. My first teaching experience was at a university teaching writing which I loved, but science is definitely the best subject!
In 2017, I started my journey as a science teacher instructing middle school scholars (6-8)- an age group I admire greatly for their creativity and fortitude.
I have experience teaching science using common core, next generation science standards, and the IB framework.
During my time as an educator, I have also served as a team leader, curriculum developer, club coordinator and schedule planner. I have led professional development around mental health and discipline for other educators.
I am passionate in the areas of science, social emotional learning and creating fun opportunities for scholars!
I am very excited to bring my diverse experiences to Avenor!
Above all, I am passionate about science education and finding ways to make science cool in unexpected ways. Another passion of mine is to create campaigns and awareness surrounding the preservation of our planet. You will probably find me picking up trash or recycling on the regular!
However, I am more than a teacher/ nature lover and enjoy sharing my hobbies with my community. I absolutely love animals, and cats are my favorite. Much of my time outside of work is spent playing video games, playing with my cat, reading comics, or skating.
I feel incredibly lucky to be at Avenor, and I cannot wait to collaborate together to make science education an exciting experience for this community!
